Italy in 1959

Amintore Fanfani resigned as Premier on January 26 after Democratic Socialist defections from his coalition cabinet. His resignation became official on February 3, and on February 6 President Giovanni Gronchi named former Premier Antonio Segni, a Christian Democrat, to replace him. Segni took office on February 17.
