Las Plumas

The Western Pacific train ferry Las Plumas entered San Francisco Bay on July 11, 1957, and began regular 24-hour service between Oakland and San Francisco on July 29. The first vessel of its kind ever to operate in San Francisco Bay, the Las Plumas could carry 27 standard-size rail cars per trip.
