A miniaturized 12-pound page teleprinter, the smallest and lightest printing telegraph machine in history, was being tested for use by Western Union in 1957, under an agreement with Teleprinter Corporation. Known as the "Mite," the teleprinter was only 5 x 11 x 11 inches in size, smaller than a portable typewriter. It would operate at any standard speed up to 100 words a minute.
