In 1958 Corning Glass Works introduced a line of stove top cookware made from a glass-based crystalline material called Pyroceram. The skillets, pans, etc. had the advantages and appearance of china, but were also resistant to the adverse effects of temperature changes. Preliminary test marketings in east and west coast markets proved so successful that marketing in other areas was delayed until production facilities could be developed.
