New York City Meter Maids

The Mayor of New York City, New York, Robert F. Wagner, and city traffic officials inspect "Meter Maids" on June 1, 960. The new unit comprised 100 women who would patrol 120 metered areas of the city in 20 teams of 5 persons each. In addition to serving as collectors of parking meter revenue, the women were empowered to issue warnings and summonses for violations.
