Oslo is the largest city of Norway. The city proper covers an area of 175 square miles, and has a population of 544,073. According to the Norse sagas, Oslo was founded around 1049 by King Harald III.

Hallvard was a young man of royal lineage who sacrificed his life in a deed of valor some nine hundred years ago. Today, St. Hallvard is the patron saint of Oslo and adorns the Oslo city arms.

Oslo has hundreds of kilometers of well-prepared cross-country ski runs and eight alpine slopes within its city limits. The All-Norway Soccer Team is based in Oslo, and the city is host to the world's largest football tournament.
