Engagement and Wedding of Princess Margaret

On February 26, 1960 the engagement of Princess Margaret to photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones was announced. The couple was married in Westminster Abbey on May 6, 1960.

Antony Armstrong-Jones follows at a protocol-required three paces behind his fiancée, Princess Margaret, into a London theater in March 1960.

Early crowds occupied the curbs along the route of the royal procession before the wedding. Many persons spent the night of May 5 sleeping on the curb to ensure themselves of a vantage point the next day.

Princess Margaret and the Duke of Edinburgh (partially hidden at right) driving through London in a royal carriage on their way to Westminster Abbey. The Duke gave Margaret's hand in marriage.
